Today’s Info 23rd August 2014

Good morning

We were busy yesterday and Glenard repaid some faith of followers of this column, having been on side and let down before finally it came together and whilst the tactics were different from what I had expected it has come off at a nice price. Cliff horses don’t always do what you want! It was nearly a nice end with Extremity going close but all the selections were well supported and it bodes well for the way the lucky pin is landing at the moment.

It is the Ebor of course and Pallasator has been a long time friend of Today’s Info and one I earmarked to many of you from his debut spin. Not been over raced and has grown into his frame nicely. Could win this and I hope he has no hard luck in his bid to take it for Sir Mark Prescott and Luke Morris. That said I can’t take the odds of 4/1 as anything like acceptable, I’d expect 11/2 plus in this field and unless it gets close to that he will run with out my financial concern.

It is all about prices and with a declared love for the favourite who is too short to punt on out of the way then let me introduce three longer priced ones I couldn’t put you off – Repeater, Great Hall and Nearly Caught are all over priced to get involved. I am playing small change on the latter two who fit a few of my needs for the race but it’s the former that might be very interesting today.

Repeater is evidently hard to win with but has efforts that mark him out a winner of exactly this type of race and the reaction in the market to a bad spin at Goodwood last time is silly as the O’Meara trained runner just does not perform there. Close in  a Listed prior to that and a big run in the Northumberland Plate it needs another look at the odds. Has decent form with Times Up a while back, has run in some of the toughest contests and is a little forgotten now I feel. Off the current mark and with the extra three pounds off that is where my play lies he can certainly win a big handicap, the owners persist and the trainer could not be more canny.

American Hope went up a few pounds for a big run last time at Ascot but it may not be enough to stop him finally winning this term. A really powerful three year old who deserves a nice pot and 7f at Goodwood in the 2.55pm should provide a good chance to take it down. Still quite a raw type and one that should continue to improve but is a worthy fav for this against some more exposed runners.

I’m in the chair on RacingFM all day so will no doubt be finding a few more wagers as the day progresses but three solid looking favourites will be put together also and they are Faraaj, Baitha Alga and Kings Fete who whilst a little short for single or three make a pretty worthwhile grouping. Big fan of all three and expect more from them in winnable races.

Advice –

York 2.05 Farraaj 6/4-  York 3.15 Baitha Alga 7/2 and 4.40 Goodwood Kings Fete 2/1

0.5pt Win Trixie ( three doubles plus a treble ) – total of 2pts

Goodwood 2.55 – American Hope 1pt Win – 7/1 General

York 3.50 – Repeater 0.75pt e/w – 66/1 Tote, BETFRED, Victor and Stan James
