Today’s Info 24th October 2015

Busy day as curtains come down and new ones go up with the switching of the seasons proper.

The Racing Post Trophy can go the way of Deauville for Aidan O’Brien, has some ground to make up on Foundation of course but that looks likely given the gap before meeting the smart Gosden colt. Both are ideal types and with a little bit of rain due and the match fitness now certain I take Deauville to reverse the form and stamp a marker down for next year in what does look a fiar price for a match.

At Newbury I do like Koora in a poor renewal of the St Simon Stakes. Romsdal should be the winner if running to best levels but that seems unlikely and if failing to fire Koora is a very likely improver and thus a winner in this field for Luca Cumani. Just lack of experience putting pay to a better run last time in the Park Hill and with that run and a drop in trip she has plenty going for her.

In the opener at Cheltenham the race looks open and plenty having first runs back make it difficult to side with perhaps some of the more obvious types but Purple N Gold has claims with fitness g’teed under what is also an interesting booking of Noel Fehily for David Pipe. Ran behind Workbench last time but that was a quick attempt to back up a tidy win at Worcester and with a little break since I expect the 6 year old will have more in the tank today. A very busy campaigner over a few seasons but only a fifth chase start and whilst not the most obvious to make a proper chaser has belied that to date. Looks a nice placement to take advantage of some other rivals just being slightly off their best.

Karazak and Hargam can fight out the second race on the card, we went close with the former on his return but this looks tougher and I’m happy to sit it out.

Jo Hughes doesn’t have many stars in the yard but Silver Man has been a credit and Nico de Boinville will look to get a positive run from the eight year old today at 3.20pm. Bumped into an improved Weather Babe who ran so well here this week and also Shuil Royale at Uttox in the Summer but those need marking up. The fav needs taking on following a tailing off last season and the other of interest is the bottom of the card Audacious Plan. Silver Man just edges it and the first time visor replaces blinkers, I think he will take a fair bit of pegging back with Townend needing a good round of jumping to make the most of a low weight.

I’ll be watching Generous Ransom closely for the hurdles prep ahead of a return to fences and a crack at the PP Gold Cup most likely next up. Is an insulting price but no support around so late play is the suggestion and he does go well here, shell like last term I think he is one to keep in mind all season.

Dandrige bumped into one last time but can win again under JJ Burke at Wexford at 5.00pm in what looks good placement. Whilst Alive Alive Oh and Blue de Vega will be keeping the attention at Leopardstown this afternoon with more end of season flat fodder.
