Today’s Info 25th April 2015
Well it’s here – the last day of AP in the saddle and he will never be matched. If he gets out today in one peice and hopefully wins aboard Mr Mole or Box Office then that will be job done. Master of his sport deserves all the well wishes he will get and nothing can be added. Legend.
We’ll start with Sandown and AP’s rides, the Mr Mole race is trickier to solve with the ground being a bit of a unknown after yesterday’s debacle which ruined some decent contests. That said for the jumpers it matters less and if AP get’s his mount interested then he has a chance. Backing him is another story and I’d be inclined to play elsewhere on the afternoon having been keen on Special Tiara in the week and now perhaps leaning towards Vibrato Valtat getting involved.
In the second race Al Ferof is the poser, has the winning of the race but is better fresh these days although Nicholls has his string in red hot nick and he really should be winning here in what looks a straight match with Menorah to me. Phillip Hobbs is great at keeping his charges at it in the latter years and Menorah a good example of that, he hasn’t been great this term though and it’s hard to know who was worse at Aintree. Both could be over the top but I think Al Ferof will win if he is anywhere near himself and at 7/2 is the call for a wager.
The BET365 Gold Cup is an obvious point for Le Reve to sparkle again having had a superb season, bettered by Rocky Creek last time up but meets on preferable terms this time and is big player under Leighton Aspell and even more so at Sandown where the animal truely excells. Weight is right, conditions are perfect and with a clear round will be involved at the finish.
Paint The Clouds is not the biggest but ran well on softened ground at Cheltenham and deserves to be at the top of the market again, more to come and is on the shortlist but I just wonder what the jumping will be like in this company and that is the only negative that puts me off this afternoon.
Guess Again perhaps heads the best of the alternatives for Tony Martin off a feather weight and with Paul Townend up. Was going well at Cheltenham and is likely to be on the right mark to pick up a pot like this for Martin over the summer and most likely a player at Galway of course. Also at a huge price a return to form from Grandad’s Horse for Charlie Longsdon would be a big player in this race. Form has tailed off in the middle winter but this might spark up in a suitable test here and Aidan Coleman has the leg up. Impressed me when beating decent yard sticks at the start of the campaign and is on a handy mark for those efforts, worth a dart I think at inflated odds.
I think Box Office can win for AP and I’m not going to jinx him trying to jump on at short enough prices – fingers crossed for him and the Champ in an attempt to break the internet with plaudits! Would be magical….
The best bet on the card might prove to be Generous Ransom who is a handsome chaser with more to offer and I think a very worthy fav for the 5pm contest. He has been very good this term and improving, including a big run at the Festival when just getting bogged down in the finish. He can improve and needs to perhaps with the burden today but it’s just about value in the odds for me and with the name of the race adding something to the cause I hope he can prevail under Daryl Jacob. A smart animal who should be at home under the conditions and has a bit more to give before a summer break.
Happy to let the action go elsewhere but will on the desk today and trying to find a few more winners for the listeners on RacingFM – good luck to all!
