Today’s Info 27th April 2015
The calm before the Punchestown and Guineas storm that follows is here although lots of racing today it’s thin on the ground in terms of quality with tricky cards around the country.
The best race of the day is later tonight at Naas where the Woodland Stakes has a top field assembled at 7.10pm and headed by Ed Lynam’s Anthem Alexander who is one to very much look forward to this term at three years old. It will be a surprise if she isn’t up to taking this but at the same time the price would be one that you’d happily watch her return without getting involved.
At Ayr during the afternoon a couple of horses catch the eye. One makes a return to the track and that is Monel in the 2.25pm for Jim Goldie and Fergal Lynch. Caught the eyecatcher eye a couple of times last year and makes a start at a track that is ideal with five course wins to date and is pitched in here in another winnable contest on best efforts. The doubt is the break and can also be a tardy starter but at the prices I’m happy to chance a small bet and with a bit of luck he will once again excel at Ayr.
The other has been busy already and that is Joey Hayne’s ride Beautiful Stranger for Keith Dalgliesh at 3.30pm in what looks an open event bar David O’Meara’s charge who carries a penalty at the top of the weights. The four year old is in good form and bumped into one last time out at Catterick and can be marked up a little for that effort, has a feather weight here with a top jockey up top and looks the play on return to Ayr where he did very well last September under similar conditions.
Looking forward to some of the galactic stars out this week but we’ll try and crack the action at Ayr first, good luck with your selections today!
