Today’s Info 27th July 2015

The start of the Galway Festival will kick off with soft ground and promise of a bit more rain to come. Goodwood also to be blighted by rain means the changing conditions have to be considered when getting involved this week in a fascinating seven days ahead for all.

The opener on the card brings two very nice animals to the unique test of Galway with Bachasson impressive last time out and showing lots of talent and Zafayan’s flat form in the upper echelons now back over hurdles for the master Dermot Weld. If the latter jumps well then he should be the one to beat but Bachasson left such a favourable impression at Sligo in the Un De Sceux colours it may be best just to watch it out this evening.

Often when you pour over the form book and come up with something it is Weld that leaves you wondering why you wasted your time as he brings them to the track to win and they do even if you struggle to make a case for them before hand. Defining Year has lots to answer in the second race on the card but could be too good, I’m having to take him on at the prices despite my concerns that it may be a wasted effort!

Beckwith Star has done this before and merits respect at the top of the weights to repeat last years win whilst Eric The Grey ran well here last year too and looks to have been set up for another crack now with Denis Hogan. King Of Oriel is interesting at the prices although I do have a concern that the ground might have gone against. Was getting involed in the race last year when coming down but hasn’t seen a hurdle since whilst being in good form om the level. More to come over hurdles and overpriced to go well if handling conditions under Mark Enright.

In the 6.50 another minefield in store and Ted Veale along with Tony Martin’s other runners have to be noted and no surprise if he prizes this contest once again. Awesome Star brings some excellent recent form to the race and John Oxx has booked up Jamie Codd for this race which is an excellent move. Carries weight well and will relish soft ground I think he can tough it out from the top of the weights and looks sure to go well. A bit of course form on the cv too will do no harm and at double figures in the betting looks a decent play.

Of the Weld runners today Harazava looks the most solid to go in for the king of the Ballybrit but a little short for an advised wager so whilst I’ll be a keen observer of the rest of the card I’ll settle for two bets and hope to be in good order for the remainder of the week!
