Today’s Info 28th December 2014

More placed horses and a couple of agonising seconds continue the theme for the post Christmas racing!

A little bit more luck needed to hit the back of the net rather than the crossbar then as we move into Sunday’s fare and the best of the action no doubt at Leopardstown with the Lexus shaping up really nicely.

Lord Windermere ran a much better race than anticipated over the shorter than ideal trip at Punchestown but the sparkle was there and the improvement very much expected for this test he will be mighty tough to beat even allowing for a very good field in opposition. Never given the credit he has deserved for efforts at Cheltenham and at home and it would be great to see him come good here and make the pre festival prices look a little generous in the process.

Bobs Worth has plenty to prove now having been so good for some time and doubts now about him being that good again. He comes in fresh and does like this place, a very worthy adversary to the current champ and if he brings his best he too goes very close and possibly wins.

Boston Bob, Sam Winner and First Lieutenant along with fellow Gigginstown charge Road to Riches all deserve a crack at the race too of course and perhaps the biggest priced contender for winning honours is the Henry De Bromhead runner Home Farm. At 25s he has to have change on board given his improved form last time out and what has always been thought of his credentials. The way he won the last time it’s hard to know how much more might be achieved and he is the interesting dark horse in the race.

I think Lord Windermere is the most likely winner and at 13/2 or thereabouts is priced for a small bet. A great race in store.

In the Pertemps I quite like Thekingofconnemara for Liz Doyle who has improved a bit and looks just the type for an attrition test here and a super jockey booked to take a couple of pounds off will help plenty. He has run well here twice without winning over shorter and this will suit, a likely type in a trappy race and priced fairly.

I’m with the same trainer and Le Vent D’Antan who ran well and learnt plenty behind Real Steel last time and will prove fair better for it when taking on a decent but not star studded field in the Beginners Chase. He should be favourite for me and one I was really looking forward to over the Christmas period.

For the Grade 1 Christmas Hurdle for the stayers if you could be sure At Fishers Cross was now on best behaviour he would be a seriously shorter price, I think he has to be supported for small money to prove himself but it is reaching last chance saloon stuff. McCoy will be well aware of his horse’s tendency but that will not matter much, if he performs as he can then he will be hard to beat.

Finally at the track a small bet on Balkinstown under Kevin Sexton at the foot of the weights for the 2.20 might be rewarded. There are some better animals in here but he has a fair mark and can improve at this track and hopefully under a positive ride from close to the pace which should be a good one. I’d have him a few points shorter and he has caught the eye a couple of times recently.

Have a great day and good luck to us all
