Today’s Info 29th April 2015

Good morning.

Mullins dominated day one with some horses perhaps not expected to come good but such is the strength there is no surprise but is does remind us to keep an eye on the second and third strings from the powerhouse!

Today’s card is once again quality laden and Marchese Marconi was an unlucky unseat at Fairyhouse when we had a super price about him and hopefully this afternoon under Mark Walsh he can once again run as well. Handicapped very fairly I believe and will once again appreciate conditions, should be taking a decent contest between here and Galway so I’m onside again with hope for a clear round.

The Grade 1 at 4.55pm is a super race and one that missed the Festivals so far might be interesting in the shape of Fletchers Flyer who took a race here last year and I think has been running very well on softer ground during the winter. He can do more yet on better conditions and looks overpriced to run well in a hot race. Hardy and tough which will be needed and under rated to date so delighted Harry Fry takes a chance.

I’m a big fan of the top three in the Gold Cup and it’s hard to desert Don Cossack after a real deal performance at Aintree but this trip is the limit for him I feel and Djackadam and Road To Riches are better suited to the test today. The latter is the one for me after such a big effort in the Gold Cup when mixing it with a super novice Coneygree and the only one to be in the firing line to whole way. That will certainly have left a mark but the ground is better today which helps and he had a break after Christmas so once more at peak is not beyond him today. If so I think he can prevail.

You Must Know Me is a really nice type for Henry De Bromhead and whilst he hasn’t been the luckiest on the track he has the ability to take a contest such as the 6.40 today under JJ Burke. I think he would have won on his latest start but for a fall and the winner that day is the favorite here in Gold Bullet. The second in that race ran a huge race yesterday in the Champion Chase and if You Must Know Me gets a clear round he has an excellent chance this afternoon off a perfect weight.

Two at Ascot also worth small wagers, the ground is a concern there with rain likely to effect the going but I am taking a chance on Stormachion for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore who I expect to improve a lot this term. Starts in a very hot race of course but some of the better rated horses could be caught a little cold and at the prices I think a small wager will do no harm for a horse who should be mixing it at this level during the season and was a typical steady improver for connections last term.

The other is Saigon City for Luca Cumani in the Apprentice Handicap, a lightly raced type who I think is best at this trip and surely has more to offer for another winter on his back. Kevin Stott is booked and is a cracking pilot and this is a very simple ride who travels well and can find himself at the front end as they kick for home. I expect the mark will prove very fair and at the prices I’m happy to play him first time up.

Advice –

Ascot 3.30 – Stormachion 0.5pt Win – 12/1 General

Ascot 5.10 – Saigon City 0.75pt Win – 6/1 General

Punchestown 4.20 – Marchese Marconi 0.75pt Win – 8/1 General

Punchestown 4.55 – Fletchers Flyer 0.5pt e/w – 14/1 General

Punchestown 5.30 – Road To Riches 0.75pt Win – 7/2 General

Punchestown 6.40 – You Must Know Me 0.75pt e/w – 12/1 General
