Today’s Info 29th July 2015
Mount Logan did the job yesterday despite a concern that the ground wasn’t ideal and the Luca Cumani in mate continues to improve. The rain that fell at Galway may not have helped Steps To Freedom but ran a very good race all the same and also nabbed a small return.
Today at Galway it’s the TheTote.com Galway Plate and I’ve been impressed with Alechi Inois to date but small fields seem to suit best and I’m concerned the jumping will be put to a real test here and the price is skinny despite the promise shown.
Make A Track has blossemed for Gordon Elliott of late since switching from Charlie Swann and the two latest runs. a liking for a big field test and the stiff nature of this race will really suit. Kevin Sexton is riding full of confidence and if getting round the first time and getting a prominent enough position will go close for connections.
Jacksons Lady is a solid choice too and might just go a bit better than when third in this race in 2013, the yard missed out last year but took a consolation race at the meeting and this will have been a very long term plan once again.
At Goodwood it looks a very tough day ahead for punters and I’m chancing some at big prices so a complete blow out is possible but I’d rather got that way as is the norm for this coloum than come up short at prices that don’t allow for much leeway. We were on Tug Boat yesterday and has to be one of the unluckiest we’ll see this week and will no be unbackable next time – such is the venue!
In the opener I was a fan of Number One London at the levels reached with Brian Meehan and I’m not surprised to see Tim Vaughan line up for this with the stayer who has not been a huge success over timber yet. Come in decent form and David Probert will suit this runner with a quiet enough building ride needed to get there at the business end, likes the track and conditions ideal so some juice in the price.
There has to be a doubt that Highland Reel will reproduce his best in the next but close to it will be hard to beat, Medrano I’m also keen to take on here so Scottish might be the value play at each way odds for Andrew Balding as I expect lots more to come from him especially if settling better. Will take an improved run to win but at 8/1 and with doubts for me at the top of the market it might be forthcoming.
I’m giving Nancy From Nairoibi another chance at 4.55pm for Richard Hughes and Mick Channon, runs better than it looks and hasn’t had much luck. A prominent ride will suit here and in an open race looks a fair price to get involved with. Tazffin looks an obvious player for Roger Varian but this is a tough assingment for one with limited experience. Channon’s runner comes back to early season form then should be a big player.
Accession is the final dart of the day and we were on when running a super race last time out. Seems to be in peak form and can operate well here, with a bit of luck in running will go well again for Charlie Fellowes and deserves to pick up a nice contest.
