Today’s Info 2nd August 2014

Good Morning

Not a lot to shout about yesterday. The racing is open, tough and competitive and whilst the markets allow me to play the game the horses haven’t got on board! A similar day today beckons but hopefully with a slice of luck on side.

The Stewards Cup is it’s usual minefield. Muthmir looks the part but is hard to steam into at the odds, very impressed last time with Haggas’ charge and with usual luck in running must be a big contender. There will be a lot of support for the Cowell trained Intrinsic who has Hughes on board outside of the Hannon options, a good word in its self of course. Ninjango may be the one he will regret not giving another chance to though having been close in this last year. The rain is arriving and with that to take the edge off then I think he can be part of an attack on the race, Ryan Moore obviously a plus in the absence of Hughes.

The other is Alben Star who comes from the hard luck camp in the past but very solid in terms of similar race form and the Fahey/Challoner partnership is set for another big race. We have another middle to high draw which I hope will prove a good place to be and they are my two darts at the prices.

I think Sultanina could be the way to go in the Nassau with all due respect to Venus De Milo. The New Approach filly has enough pace for this and after a good return is set to take another leap forward for Gosden. The trip could catch a few out but I think Buick will find she has the gears to cope and the rain about also likely to assist.

In the opener I am chancing Secondo who threatens to be very smart at sprint trips and has the right credentials for the consolation race. In contrast I wouldn’t want too much rain to fall early and if it stays fair then that will increase my hopes of a much improved performance. Roger Charlton has had this as the target and the charge is coming to the boil.

At Galway I hope Robbie McNamara gets on the board at least once, the opener and the last present good chances. The 3.10 is a puzzle to solve though and I’ve come down on Off The Charts for Mark Walsh and Dessie Hughes. Good win at Punchestown and improving plenty there is more to offer, the climb up the hill ideal and if sitting close enough to the pace can make them all go.

Advice –

Galway 3.10  – Off The Charts 1pt Win – 7/1 General

Goodwood 2.05 – Secondo 1pt Win – 12/1 Powers, S James and BET365

Goodwood 3.15 – Sultanina 1pt Win – 5/1 General

Goodwood 3.50 – Alben Star 1pt Win – 11/1 General

Goodwood 3.50 – Ninjago 0.75pt e/w – 16/1 General, 5 places 1/4 odds
