Today’s Info 2nd May 2014

That was tough punting yesterday and a cross bar with Art Of Logistics is frustrating but good to see a return to form for the chaser and something there to work on for connections.

A day of delight though for Jessica Harrington and her team who bagged a majestic treble, the final leg a nice win for Robbie too, wearing the RacingFM logo is always welcome and first ride ride for the yard!

Jetson had to be the highlight, outrunning all expectations in bringing down the queen Quevega and Davy Russell used all his guile on another high profile day for him. Punchestown has been fascinating so far and will not let up today that is for sure.

I could back three in the 4.20 on today’s card with Sizing Gold very much the main hope.  A proper stamp who jumps like a stag and has a good mark for this it does look a perfect opportunity to wrap up his novice campaign. At chancier odds both Operating and The Romford Pele are interesting enough but if Henry De Bromhead’s runner gets a nice clear round in then I think he will win so that’s the starting point for the day.

Nicky Henderson has the Mares Handicap Chase seemingly wrapped up with Utopie Des Bordes and Une Artiste, the former ran such a big race at Aintree and relishes her racing I think she is the one to lean on from the pair. Nadiya De La Vega has lost her edge for me and bar Burn And Turn, who traveled so well at Fairyhouse but doesn’t always change her pace when needed then this field is not strong. Barry Geraghty is in such good form so I’m glad to see him ride the selection who is only a little one but has a big heart and can jump a fence so I hope he has chosen right.

A three runner Champion is not going to be a great spectacle, at least until the race warms up with a couple to go. Jezki carries McCoy again and they have never hit it off so if you wanted to support the Hurricane that is one angle on side when considering whether Cheltenham form can be reversed. Jezki was better at this meeting last year than at the Festival and that bodes well for him keeping his form but this could be a very odd race and one that will probably suit Hurricane Fly more than Jezki and for punting purposes has to be a swerve!

Looking forward to seeing Vautour as well of course but I’ve no other punts at Punchestown.

There are a few reasons to throw a small bet at Addiction in the 5.25 at Fontwell. She is obviously on the out of form list but the mark is appealing now she completed last time and if building on that after a nice little break again then she could outrun her rag odds. The trainer has had two winners recently and this mare would be winning this if reproducing efforts of April last year when scoring at Exeter and unseating when running a big race at Wincanton. If you watch the pipe opener over hurdles you can see she was keen, ran strongly until folding and it should have set up well for a return to fences and confidence in tact once more. A small bet at a lively one I in a poor enough race.

Best of luck and enjoy the racing.
