Today’s Info 30th August 2014

Busy if not spectacular day across the cards in store for us on RacingFM. I will be in the chair for the racing so hopefully these few wagers will have me in a good mood!

The Beverley Bullet looks a strong renewal and with the ground remaining on the decent side expect the form the hold up nicely. The three absentees have tightened the market a touch which is a shame as I was keen to play Roger Varian’s runner Rocky Ground e/w at the likely prices. That said I still think there is juice in the 7/2 to take on favourite Pearl Secret. I was impressed, as was the trainer, with the Windsor effort and after that has figured well in much better events. The run at the Curragh can be forgiven and if coming back to the form prior to that is a player. Pearl Secret is a lovely 5 year old and should run a good race of course but I think conditions will suit Rocky Ground better and a return to this track an added bonus.  A small punt in the Bullet.

At Sandown I am chancing Normal Equlibrium for Robert Cowell and Andrea Atzeni who will relish a bit of cut in the ground in my view but can act on anything. The mark is about right but the shape of the race appeals, from the 14 draw I expect Andrea can sit right on the front end and be involved at the finish. The price dictates another small dart in a hot race. Cowell yard have hit many a crossbar recently with placed runners but this might change the luck.

Aktabantay should score in the Solario but not  punting race for me so the Atalanta Stakes is little more interesting. Odeliz looks solid for place money at least and has done really well for Karl Burke, whilst Fintry has to be respected making the trip over under a penalty. Hugo Palmer though has always been keen on Audacia and Ryan Moore is booked for this one up in class again having been sparsely but highly tried previously. The key is the ground and it looked like it all clicked at Pontefract. It is a chance taken that she will fulfill the expectations and with Moore up top then she must be once again making the right noises at home and has conditions to provide an opportunity to impress.

Regular readers of my column will know I have a very good regard for Eve Johnson Houghton and in What About Carlo it is shared some more. Done us some favours this term and back at the right trip with a bit of ease in the conditions is once again overpriced in a suitable race. Ran over too short on a track and in a race that didn’t suit last time but this is far more acceptable placement now. Is capable of dropping the towel in but is talented beyond the mark and can make presence felt once more at a super price for each way punters.

Also in the contest is marmite horse for me Tinghir who has been supported a couple of times and for various reasons hasn’t gone through with an effort. Blinkers on and a big field might just do the job and he has to be saved on to cover a laptop against the wall moment in the studio! Has the ability and is handicapped very fairly if he does consent.

A few at Chester caught the eye, Top Boy, Mezzotint and Whiplash Willie but I’m only going to play small at the track this afternoon.

Hopefully a bit of luck and a couple of big runs from the selections will make the afternoon tick along nicely.
