Today’s Info 31st August 2014

A nearly day yesterday, thoughts of success fluttered into the mind with Normal Equilibrium and also Mezzotint but not to be.

The Curragh today presents an interest puzzle to solve with the Cambridgeshire. Mick Halford has a strong grip on the race with Hasanour of course but that is the pick of many and the price is tight enough. It should dry up a fair bit there today as the weather is set fair and that race goes to post at 4.35pm. I like the chances of one of Halford’s that certainly hasn’t won the races they might have hoped but continues to put in eyecatching efforts to suggest this race might be the one to change fortune. Won Diamond was a taking runner on return this year and connections thought enough of him to send him to Ascot last summer and in a handful of starts the potential is certainly there. Conor Hoban takes off three pounds and puts him in off a competitive looking perch. Has run well here before and is a powerful animal who off a good pace with cover can make light of the rag odds I hope.

Sean Corby is booked for the same owner aboard Shadagann in the Apprentice race and that is a big bonus. This gelding is top weight but has hinted at more to come despite being forever haunted by a run behind Trading Leather that has made it tough ever since. Easiest chance to date in my view and can be kidded along to get involved here at a fair price.

Lastly I am chancing that Alive Alive Oh can reverse recent form with Carla Bianca in the Group 3, she has been minded a lot in her career but put the foot forward last time under Fran Berry and with that encouragement she can step up again. She has to do so to turn around the weights and the defeat but in a race that she is not far off the top and with possibly just enough juice to make her properly effective she could be a safe play each way with a good chance she can improve. The yard always thought the most of her and she is still relatively unexposed considering the problems they have had getting her racing.
