Today’s Info 31st July 2014
It started so well with Snow Sky and then it could have been better, the Plate runners went well enough but not good enough, Dazzling Susie feels like one left behind when 5th under patient tactics rather than forward tactics, good idea! George Rooke similar with a late thrust as the race was gone.
Today we are set a puzzle with the Hurdle to solve at Galway. I wouldn’t put people off taking a few in the race and the likes of Thomas Edison, Hisabaat and Darwins Fox represent some kind of appeal, the former of the three now a horrid price if you are not on already of course and poor value today.
I am taking two and they are The Game Changer and Indian Icon. Charlie Swan is not on everyone’s current list of big race trainers but The Game Changer has a pot in him and showed a boiling up to the task on the last two runs. Was regarded high enough as a younger charge and hasn’t been shipped off as is often the case for the owners when they don’t operate as hoped. I am happy with the booking and he will feel loose enough at the foot of the weights.
Dessie Hughes has got Indian Icon in at the foot too and this is a quick improver who could still be a fair bit ahead of the game coming here in great form. A little bit to find of course but running style and track could suit this, jumps well in the main and is one that strikes me as the most likely smart type to progress after this too.
I want to start the day at Galway though with a few quid on Elegant Statesman who has AP on top for Henry De Bromhead. Lots more to come from this horse, I hope McCoy takes no prisoners up top and grinds this one home. Ran well enough here last year in a race that was wrong for him and is still growing into racing.
Goodwood is a little easier to solve I hope. Readers of this column will know I am relatively smitten with Nakuti and Cam Hardie rides today which I am nicely agreeable too. Won last time in good style, job done rather than choke out and I expect more still. We can get an each way price and I’m hopeful for all the reasons explained in my writing before that she can perform.
The other bet is a more speculative one on the German runner in the Lille Langtry. I have problems with Waila in terms of winning races, she will find a reason to give in generally. Missunited will set this up nicely but after a mammoth race last time can also be passed over so Nymphea looks a touch of value with the rest of the race lacking a bit of class in my view. Scheirgen’s five year old is up to this and will be right on the pace which despite the trip I expect Missunited to still make, that will work well and I’d be hopeful she will be involved.
Galway 1.50 Elegant Statesman 1.5pt Win – 4/1 Gen
Galway 4.55 Indian Icon 1pt Win – 20/1 Gen
Galway 4.55 – The Game Changer 1pt Win – 14/1 Gen
Goodwood 3.45 Nymphea 0.75pt Win – 9/1 Gen
Goodwood 4.50 Nakuti – 0.75pt e/w – 16/1 Gen
