Today’s Info 4th July 2015

Super racing today to work with and hopefully some winners to be found.

The Eclipse is a humdinger but a bigger field would have helped Golden Horn who on the basis of a Derby win that looks solid this year is rightly favourite to land the feature at Sandown. The drop in trip no issue and with plausible danger from Cougar Mountain and more obviously The Grey Gatsby to overcome. Might have to make some of the pace here if it starts off a crawl and that may well depend on Tullius who is potentially a front rank runner today but either way Frankie will not want to be trying to make up too much ground on this track. Watch and enjoy rather than find an angle in a tight enough market.

The card might contain a punt with Spark Plug, horridly unlucky at Ascot whem coming down but running a big race at the time and Ryan Moore will be hoping there is a clear passage in the Challenge today at 2.35pm. If there are no ill effects from the experience then taking a big hand in this is very likely and the price is a point or two in our favour for a competitive race in my view.

At Haydock I think the races look punting material and none more so than the opener where Lord Ben Stack, considered a Derby horse at the start of the term by shrewd Karl Burke, is overpriced with sights lowered at a track that suits and with underfoot conditions also turned in favour. There is promise in the top of the market of course but Lord Ben Stack could be very well treated if resuming progress and looks a super ride for Graham Lee.

I want to give Queen Of Ice another chance after running too fresh on return and a resumption of her progress from last year marks her as one to keep on side against the field assembled for the Lancashire Oaks at 2.15pm. Pat Cosgrave will hope to get her settled on an easier keel and conditions look good for her to step back up a level and take a hand at a fair price.

I do think Penhill and Battersea could be the class above the rest in the Old Newton Cup, Penhill got it wrong at Newmarket but is well able to run a big race off the current perch and has to be on side. Battersea returns and lack of a run and softer ground make it a bit of a question mark whether this will be a step too much after the break and preference is therefore for Luca Cumani’s charge.

I want a dart at a bigger price and Nancy From Nairobi is a very consistent sort for Mich Channon and one that can offer more if things drop right, good jockey makes the mark more appealing and conditions look suitable, overpriced for a saver and top repay a bit of faith with a big run.

A final swipe at a price too big is Beacon in the Charge at Sandown, who hasn’t got a good draw although that will suit his style. Clearly is talented and has trained on judged on the reapearance this season although a line should be drawn through the latest effort if you are to support him today. Will drop out and rattle home and it’s an “if” of course but best efforts would be interesting in this at rag odds.

Hopefully some value found and a the runners can back that up!
