Today’s Info 5th April 2015

Yesterday was a mixed bag which didn’t contain the winner we needed sadly but perhaps the luck has been saved for the tricky stuff at Fairyhouse?!

Going to start at Plumpton with the classy flat type A Boy Named Suzi for Lucy Wadham, he has had a shocking run with his hurdling and it may be that it will not improve from what we have seen but if he can knock the haphazard clambers over his hurdles our of his run today at Plumpton then he will look a very big price under Leighton Aspell. I’d be inclined to let him run at around 4/1 which would be a more accurate price in this field but he is available at double that.

It will be interesting to see AP McCoy and Joseph O’Brien in the same race, riding for the same owner and potentially fighting out a finish in a competitive Grade C Hurdle at Fairyhouse and whilst AP clearly has the pick of the pair both are in with chances. In fact the top weight may be a little bit of value although it’s a fair task after a break from the track, the classy flat performer is certainly worth the weight on best efforts and is entitled to improve a bit from last year. The mark is perhaps generous for a first crack at a handicap and it may well be a little below his pay grade in time so giving weight away against inferior rivals is tempting at the odds enough to have a small punt and I’ll be cheering on Joseph who has to be looking forward to this opportunity.

The Mares race is a cracker and I’m hoping The Pirates Queen can step up from Cheltenham which was following a break and take a race that will really suit. A very tough and hardy type she will battle in this ground and is a nice price for a rare raid on the meeting by Alan King with Denis O’Regan booked. It was just the hill at Cheltenham that found out her rustiness but sharper here and I think she is the one to beat and can confirm previous form with the favourite here.

Gitane De Berlais won an awful Grade 1 in England this year and has since won in France but lines up in the Ryanair Gold Cup as market leader down to Ruby deciding to ride her and a serious allowance in weight against her rivals for the showpiece of the day. She looks a horrid price but you have to respect Ruby and the ground is going to be no issue for her whereas it may hinder some of the opposition.

Valseur Lido and Apache Stronghold should be fighting this out however on the basis of their tussles this season and I expect the former to prove a little stronger on the day. The Drinmore form is hard to forget and I still maintain a bit of a mugging took place at Leopardstown and then Cheltenham but the simple facts are they are closely matched, I prefer Valseur Lido and I prefer the price for this race. It is a superb renewal and Gilgamboa could also figure but has more to prove than the main charges.

All of the selections today will be played small in a Sunday multiple to cover the crossbars! Superb few days in store and it rolls straight into Aintree almost without breath….hold on tight!
