Today’s Info 5th June 2015 – Epsom, Oaks Day

Good morning

A really weak renewal of the Oaks perhaps, or maybe that’s just me but it may not take a lot of winning and with the 1000 Guineas winner leading the field that makes sense on what we have seen. I thought it was a bad 1000 though and similar in Ireland although the version at The Curragh may well have had more teeth to it this year. That said the winner from Newmarket is not short enough to put me off with everything staking up for a classic double, Lady Of Dubai closest I have come to opposing the fav and at the odds I’ll have a small bet on Ryan Moore getting more out of the hardy Legatissimo.

Very keen on the improving Bold Lass in the opener for David Lanigan and George Baker and was taken by the return this season at Windsor when value for a lot more and entitled to improve for the effort. Odeliz is a rightful market leader but not the easiest to pop up in front and may have to settle for second fiddle behind a smart one who is ready to step up further this afternoon.

Throwing two darts in the next, one sentimental at What About Carlo who seems to have forgotten how to run his race after a highly promising return in the Lincoln seems an age away now. Super at this meeting last year and capable of bundles more than his mark so Hanagan and a set of blinkers could see him destroy a field or two again. Up to him probably and is kept on side! The other is Nanci From Nairobi under Hughes, this filly saves something and I think is more than capable moving up a gear when the race drops right, Hughes is the man for the job too and she is worth the second wager at the odds.

I thought Shifting Power should and would be fav for the Diomed Stakes but being able to chance him letting his big frame down on the downs looks a fair bet at the prices available. Custom Cut shouldn’t be able to beat him on this ground, Arod is short at this trip and will likely stay on behind rather than be able to get to the head of affairs and so Tullius looks the danger this afternoon. That said I think Shifting Power is still a work in progress and will deliver a good bit more with conditions to suit.

Lesha might be one of the better handicapped horses on display at the track this afternoon but also brings some of the poorest recent form to the table too although it’s been a while since they used headgear and with Shane Gray adding to the handicapper’s loosening grip then the price is too big. In fact there has been market nibbles for Kevin Ryan’s charge on all efforts this term and the first couple of runs back showed promise but it’s a leap of faith and hopefully one worth taking at rewarding odds.

Happy to leave and learn from the final two races rather than get too involved and hopefully we have a bit of luck with some fairly priced hopes on a top day’s action.
