Today’s Info 6th August 2014
Bit of luck yesterday with a winner but also one that conditions and a bad break conspired to halt.
Not the easiest of racing today but it’s two at Brighton I am taking a chance with. I’m not the best of judges when it comes to Mark Johnston’s string having been at many a funeral and missed the weddings in terms of big winners. Two lesser lights of the yard out today at the Seaside and both ridden by Michael Murphy though have me trying to get it right once again.
The first is Skytrain who goes in the 3.50pm over a mile and comes here off the back of a good run at Goodwood in a much better race. The trainer has nailed this race a good few times and on a nice mark may have the right one to do so again. This is the right level, conditions are perfect and the few pounds off will do no harm. Possibly better at 7f but this track will suit I hope and see him home.
The other is Lady Frances in the following race at 4.20pm over 7f. The filly got off the mark two starts ago in a good time at Catterick and then tackled better company without reaching the level needed at Newmarket. An extra furlong tried now and that should be fine I think they may eek a bit more from the 3 year old in a small field.
It could go the way of my previous attempts to read the Johnston runners and if so it may be a while before I try again!
Brighton 3.50 – Skytrain 0.75pt Win – 5/1 BETFRED and Totesport
Brighton 4.20 – Lady Frances 0.75pt Win – 11/4 General, 3s in places
