Today’s Info – Irish Grand National 6th April 2015
Well some day in store with 9 meetings on RacingFM not sure how yours truly is going to fit it all on on air from the first to the last, wish me luck!
The Irish Grand National is the feature – cracking preview here if you are still undecided..
I’ve poured over it and I’d love Cantlow to win for the spectacle and as AP did it yesterday on Gilgamboa the reception would be unreal, I feel that the ground drying up will help but it might not be enough for him and the price is obviously shorter than it should be so the decision for a value seeker is made for you.
Lots Of Memories has to be on the list, it is a big ride for Paddy Kennedy and the horse is very well handicapped to figure if getting a bit of luck on route. Can run prominently as he did taking on big guns in hot races this winter. The form of his Chase starts to date can be marked up and he has excellent form at the track. A leading contender who had strong hurdles form and is backing that up over fences so far.
Thunder and Roses seems to have a quirk, if things go right though he has lots of ability and it will probably come down to how he has got out of the hay bed this morning. Similar profile to Lots Of Memories but his run at Cheltenham was poor and nver went a yard for Johnny King that day. Katie Walsh up is a good move and if he is sweet today he is a another well treated horse who could thrive in this.
I’ll be having change on Sizing Coal and Silver Tassie but they have lots to do to win but are lovely types who just haven’t had the preps go to plan this term. Silver Tassie has a solid profile but not seen for some time is a worry whilst Sizing Coal might find this a year too soon but is a super type for the future and has no weight here with a handy pilot up too.
Anyone on Vics Canvas and Los Amigos will be hopeful, both yards have a great history with the race through success and family and they would be great stories for the race. The price on either doesn’t appeal greatly though, the latter has a bit more to prove I feel and although winning here on a prep run has had a few problems and might have been better coming in here with another handicap run which is probably true of both charges.
One other bet on the card is the well treated Rupert Lamb for Mullins and Walsh, changed owner and not see for some time but this is a good starting point. A terrible time tried over fences but has a few more good races to run yet and this trip will suit for return and kept in the yard is a good sign so hopefully goes well fresh as has in the past and has a few pounds in hand.
At Chepstow in the 2.40 Handicap Chase I am taking a bit of a flyer with Goodtoknow who is overpriced if you draw a line through a blip last time out. He was in good form and progressing prior to that and in what is a good race might be able to get involved if non the worse for that effort. He can travel and jump and I think the trip is ideal, hopefully back on track today at rewarding odds and takes a hand in the finish.
