Today’s Info, Royal Ascot Day 5

Good morning

Another load of places yesterday and a poor day’s punting on what was a super day’s action. Did a little better on the evening session finding a few nice priced winners from the RacingFM studio but the main business was done!

Day 5 then at the main meeting today, toughest of the week and as I haven’t landed a pot yet and the scar on my head from the crossbars will not take many more stitches at this stage it may be trickier for me than others!

The opener should go the way of Dick Whittington but hardly a betting race for me with so much in here that could be anything at all. Form behind Capello Sansevero reads well and more to come of course.

Cases for a few in the Duke of Edinburgh could be as strong as Arab Spring but the rise for the win last time is a little on the heavy side and I might chance a few quid on the poorly drawn Elidor who won at the meeting last year and prepped well enough for a return and good ground.

Telescope’s big day has arrived, it is probably now or never for him to step up to the plate. I’d say he will win with Moore getting off Hilstar is a great sign for the confidence in the horse. Ground, trip and opposition all look very positive to be fair and at the prices I am tempted. 5/2 minimum for me needs to be found to punt it, if you can then I’d say take it. Sharestan at a price could go well enough to place.

Astaire needs to find a bit to land the Diamond Jubilee but I think it is within his compass. I wasn’t disappointed with the run last time coming back to sprinting against elders and more perhaps on the plate here but apart from two or three I make him the most likely winner. There are doubts about Aljamaheer and Slade Power for me and James Boyle has nabbed a lovely price on this website with his preview ante post selection Due Dilligence. I am taking the odds with a small bet for Astaire.

Rivellino can run a much bigger race than the odds suggest in the Wokingham although confidence can never be high in such a race so you need to be taking a fair price about one. Form on the a/w surface is very good, must translate it to turf but Karl Burke can’t be any more confident that it is no issue. A career best needed but that is normal for any winner of this.

The others I like are Seeking Magic and Rocky Ground, no harm in taking a few against the field and the cases are different for both. Seeking Magic has made a few horlicks’ of winning races he should off but that only means his mark is still good, the jockey reduces it but will need to be bang on his game to get the quirky gelding to perform as he should. Rocky Ground has had this as the plan and had to show it last time to come in my view, that was a god effort and they think it’s group races to follow. Frankie booked and the shortest of my picks with the most obvious and solid chance.

Nothing in the last where Tiger Cliff should win and if First Avenue does I may never be seen again having let him run without a wager over jumps recently – ouch!!!!
