Tom Hogan reports Gordon Lord Byron “buzzing” ahead of Ascot
Trainer Tom Hogan says his crack sprinter and three time G1 winner Gordon Lord Byron is “buzzing” ahead of a tilt at the QIPCO Champion Sprint Stakes at Ascot this Saturday.
Speaking to Donn McClean on RacingFM yesterday as part of The Weekend That Was show Hogan revealed “he’s in great form, he did a breeze on grass this morning, his first proper stretch since France and he’s buzzing, he’s in great order”.
On his last run in France when second behind Olympic Glory in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp, Hogan was full of praise for his stable star. “It was unbelievable, to cover the first five furlongs in less than 54 seconds is phenomenal.”
It was an incredible achievement for Hogan to bring his charge to Australia last March straight out of quarantine and land the George Ryder Stakes Group 1 at Rosehill and reflecting on it Hogan said “It was great, I didn’t realise what an achievement it was until the likes of Chris Waller and Gai Waterhouse started telling me what a wondeful feat it was to take a horse straight out of quarantine and go and win a Group 1”.
Gordon Lord Byron was originally purchased by Hogan’s secretary for pin hooking and failed to sell so Hogan was quick to delight in such luck “thank good she was a glorious failure as a pin hooker” so he arrived at Hogan’s door “and he hasn’t been let out since!”
