True Story heads Dante six
Godolphin’s Investec Derby hope True Story heads six entries for Thursday’s Dante Stakes at York, but is not an assured runner due to ground concerns for the exciting Manduro colt.
Saeed bin Suroor’s charge put in two fine performances at Newmarket in his juvenile campaign but really hit the headlines with an extremely impressive 7 length victory in the Feilden Stakes at the same track on his comeback run last month. Currently he has only the well touted Australia ahead of him in the market for this season’s Epsom Classic but with all three of his Newmarket performances having come on good ground or better, there is a question mark over his participation at York, with the ground currently being described as soft after 6mm of rain on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
“I think that True Story will be fine on good to soft ground but we wouldn’t want the going to be too soft for him,” bin Suroor said.
“The forecast at York is for dry weather from Wednesday onwards and we will make a final decision about his participation nearer the time. True Story is ready to go and we are aiming to run him at York at the moment.”
Richard Hannon’s French Listed winner, Bunker, is True Story’s main market rival for Thursday’s Group 2 contest on the Knavesmire, whilst connections of 2000 Guineas 10th, The Grey Gatsby and recent Windsor Maiden winner Arod will be hoping for some improvement from their charges.
Outsiders Odeon, a 9 length Redcar maiden winner last time and two time maiden runner up Saab Almanal complete the six runner field.
