Tuesday’s Action: Veteran Kingsgate can get back to winning ways at Beverley

It may be over a year since the veteran KINGSGATE NATIVE has got his head in front but today’s drop in class from pattern company in the Eddie And Violet Smith Conditions Stakes at Beverley, gives him the best chance since that victory at Haydock in May last year.

The now 9yo hardly ever runs a bad race and, despite his age, has shown time and time again this season that he retains plenty of hunger and ability for the game. He has gone close in Group company on many occasions this season and, as stated, this looks like a fine bit of placement by trainer Robert Cowell in an attempt to get the son of Mujadil back to winning ways.

A strong pace is guaranteed with the likes of Noble Storm and Tangerine Trees and this will be a big help to Cowell’s charge who should be picking them off late in the day. The former is a big danger if maintaining the gallop but the biggest threat should come from the consistent Green Door, who will be looking to break a run of runner-up performances for Olly Stevens and Andrea Atzeni.

Iptisam should be nicely freshened up after a break and, if returning to the form of his fine Listed performances at Lingfield earlier in the season, could enter calculations in what should be a good race. Burning Thread completes the field but looks out of his depth against today’s classy rivals.
