Twilight Son Storms to Group 1
Henry Candy denied Charlie Hills a memorable Group 1 sweep in the sprints as Twlight Son held off two Hills trained three year olds in Strath Burn and Magical Memory as the three year olds dominated the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock this afternoon.
A big step up from handicap company for the unbeaten charge from the Candy yard was taken in stride as Fergus Sweeney steered Twilight Son to the front in the final furlong and held off the fast finishing Strath Burn to remain undefeated and in line for a clash with Charlie Hill’s Muhaarar at Ascot on Champions day at the end of the season.
On his improving sprinter Candy was delighted to see him continue on the upward curve so quickly. “He’s a natural and an incredibly tough horse. He just took time, he’s twice the size as he was last year and keeps improving.”
“He might have one more run with the championship race at Ascot the logical next race and hopefully he’ll continue next season.”
