Wedding Vow off the mark
A late run through on the outside and perfectly timed by Joseph O’Brien saw Wedding Vow get off the mark at the 6th time of asking for trainer Aidan O’Brien and land the Group 2 Kilboy Estate Stakes at The Curragh.
Sent off a supported 6/1 chance O’Brien came through on Wedding Vow to take over from the weakening Raydara which left Brooch , 11/4f for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen to finish second with a late rally from Bocca Baciata claiming third spot for Jessica Harrington.
Joseph O’Brien busy recently for yard with Ryan Moore on the injured list was impressed with his mount.
“She had nice form earlier in the year but was too keen in Ascot over a mile-and-a-half with the blinkers on. Back in trip today she settled. There wasn’t much pace on and in fairness to her she quickened up really good.”
“We could think about races in America for her. A mile or a mile-and-a-quarter is probably her trip. It’s good to win a Group race with a pedigree like hers.”
Also on the card Jim Bolger took the opener with debutant Leafy Shade and winning Jockey Kevin Manning also landed the second race with Leath Na Hoibre in the same colours for trainer Brendan Duke.
Pat Smullen was a winner aboard Willie Mullins’ trained Digeanta who took the stayers handicap a 2/1f.
